• Abu Dhabi Airports and Al Hail Holding will introduce a controlled digital wallet with which stablecoin and crypto payments can be made at Zayed International Airport.
  • The partnership is in line with the Digital Economy Strategy of the UAE, the development of blockchain, AI integration, and the next-generation financial infrastructure.
  • Elena Sorlini explains that the project will change the face of the digital commerce, making it more convenient, sustainable, and accessible throughout the traveller experience in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Airports has partnered with Al Hail Holding to offer payment solutions on stablecoins and digital assets, which will enable traveller convenience at Zayed International Airport. The relocation is a crucial step towards making cashless travel and enhancing the digital availability of finances in the UAE.

Advancing Digital Payments Through Strategic Collaboration

Abu Dhabi Airports and Al Hail Holding will work towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to define boundaries for the digital wallet to use for incoming tourists. This project aims to make spending on the airport’s offerings easy and will be in line with the UAE’s overall ambitions of digital transformation. This project resonates heavily with the UAE Digital Economy Strategy and Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 which both critically address adopting future finance technologies.

According to the project agreement, the joint steering committee will oversee building the digital wallet as well as overall governance, regulatory framework, and project oversight. Abu Dhabi Airports will supply the operational structure, and governance and engagement with financial regulators will be managed by Al Hail Holding.

Technology company Xare will serve as the project’s technology partner to deliver secure, fast, and user-friendly payment infrastructure.

According to the UAE’s official news agency, WAM, the pilot is expected to enhance Abu Dhabi’s role as a global tourism and fintech hub. The initiative reinforces the emirate’s vision to become a leading centre for smart financial systems and travel technology.

Introducing Stablecoin Payments and Digital Wallet Solutions

The partnership will embark on the incorporation of the stablecoin payments into the airport ecosystem, which will provide visitors with borderless and flexible payments. This will facilitate easy transactions on the part of the travellers and this will eliminate the problem of currency exchange and foster efficiency and transparency in airport trade.

Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, explained the project’s broader vision. She said, “Airports are evolving from gateways into platforms for seamless digital commerce. Through our partnership with Al Hail Holding and Xare, we will pilot cashless, next-generation payment technologies that simplify every step of the traveller journey and redefine convenience, sustainability, and financial access.”

The program aims to demonstrate how transactions involving stablecoins can take place securely and in a regulated manner, within the blockchain transaction space, demonstrating UAE’s commitment to combining technological innovation and trusted financial oversight to increase economic diversification

AI and Sustainable Infrastructure for Future Efficiency

The project will also examine how AI and sustainable infrastructure can generate better efficiencies and less environmental footprint of activity to exhibit the ambitions of Abu Dhabi to extend sophisticated technology with sustainability-oriented design in strategic infrastructural undertakings.

The AI systems would maximize and more effectively handle transactions and payments, identify fraud and risk, and enhance interaction with the digital ecosystem of the airport. Sustainable frameworks will also support reduced energy and enhanced resource management.

Analysts say the partnership reflects Abu Dhabi’s ambition to lead the region in smart travel and digital finance innovation. By combining AI, blockchain, and green infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Airports and Al Hail Holding are positioning the emirate as a global model for next-generation travel and financial technology integration.
