• The increase of Ethereum velocity at historic lows is a sign of the resurgence of liquidity and resurging trading activity, with earlier bull cycles preceding strong price surges.
  • The consistent increase in the velocity of Ethereum to 5 and 10 can help ETH exceed 4,100, reinforcing its advance to 5,000-6,000.
  • Whales buying Ethereum, such as the $110 million buy, support the strength and momentum since the regaining of velocity places ETH to compete with new market highs in 2025.

Ethereum velocity is showing early signs of recovery, raising expectations of a potential rally that could push ETH toward the $5,000 level and beyond. Historical patterns suggest that renewed velocity often precedes strong market momentum.

Ethereum Velocity Signals Renewed Market Energy

Ethereum velocity tracks the pace at which ETH changes hands within the market. Increased velocity is the sign of active shifts and speculations, while low rates tend to represent investor accumulation and long-term holding.

In the 2017–2018 cycle, the Ethereum velocity surged to near 50. The metric’s steep rise coincided with ETH’s rapid rally before peaking, after which the market faced heavy selling and sharp corrections. This showed how elevated velocity has often preceded speculative tops.

The 2021 bull run followed a similar trajectory. Velocity rose above 20 during Ethereum’s rally, pushing ETH into new highs. Once velocity reversed, Ethereum’s momentum weakened, triggering price corrections that confirmed the close relationship between velocity and market direction.

Gradual Recovery in 2025 Supports Bullish Outlook

During the period 2022-2024, the velocity of Ethereum reached an all-time low, indicating less activity and broad accumulation. During this phase, ETH traded largely sideways, lacking the liquidity surge needed for a sustained rally.

Velocity in 2025 has begun to pick up from these lows, currently trading at approximately 2. Although still muted compared to previous bull markets, the recovery suggests a slow re-participation by the market and regained trading intensity.

A steady acceleration from 2 to 5 and 10 would anchor Ethereum’s foundation. Such a scenario could maintain a breakout above $4,100 and set up a rally to $5,000 to $6,000, as with past cycle patterns.

Whale Accumulation Strengthens Market Focus

Ethereum’s velocity recovery is not the only factor attracting attention. Large-scale purchases have also been observed, adding to bullish sentiment surrounding ETH’s market outlook.

On-chain analytics platform Arkham reported that a whale address recently acquired around $110 million in Ethereum. The address, newly created and funded by FalconX, executed the purchase in one transaction. Arkham noted speculation about whether prominent market players were behind the acquisition.

This buying activity arrives at a critical time. If velocity continues to rise gradually, Ethereum could challenge the $5,000 level and potentially extend beyond it. However, if velocity accelerates too quickly into the 10–15 range, it could resemble past peaks where speculative excess preceded corrections.
